An impressive group of 21 employees from across our WA operations recently graduated from the Women in Operations (WIO) program - an 18-month development course and pathway towards operational and leadership roles.

Alcoa Australia President and program sponsor Michael Gollschewski said the initiative aims to develop and retain top female talent at a pivotal time in their career.

“The Women in Operations program really shines the spotlight on our up-and-coming talent. We need diversity of thought and strong leadership across all job roles and I look forward to seeing what future opportunities this group of graduates take on at Alcoa,” Michael said.

Kwinana Chemical Engineer Tamara D’Amico said the program helped solidify her confidence and skills in multifaceted areas of leadership.

“I now realise the importance of seeking to understand those in your team, owning your message and building positive relationships,” Tamara said.

“More introspectively, the program has shown me tools to use to better care for my own emotional, mental and physical health with development on emotional intelligence, stress management and resilience.”

When Lida Rashid began the WIO program she worked as a management accountant at Pinjarra and is now a business analyst based at Booragoon.

“The program has given me the knowledge and skills needed to be a more well-rounded leader and has helped me better manage all aspects of my career from the simple day to day matters to the more significant ones,” Lida said.

“WIO is well supported by senior managers from across the business which is really nice to see and provides great opportunities for regular networking and building relationships.”

The recent graduates were the third cohort to complete the program since it began in 2018, with some of their varied job roles including engineer, operator, research analyst, environmental scientist, stores officer, human resources advisor, health and safety consultant and accountant.
