Donations Support Brazilian Flood Relief

The Alcoa Foundation announced a $100,000 USD donation for flood relief support in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

As a result of heavy storms and flooding, Brazil’s southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul, has faced damage affecting more than 2 million community members and leaving more than 530,000 homeless. Of the 467 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, 460 were affected by the storms.

Alcoa Foundation’s donation will support More United Group’s state recovery fund for medium-term recovery actions. Special focus will be given to rebuilding the state’s educational system, including actions to get students and teachers back in the classroom, rebuilding schools, and creating a strategic plan to promote strong communication and collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

“Alcoa Foundation is proud to stand in solidarity with our Brazilian colleagues and support the recovery of the state of Rio Grande do Sul following unprecedented flooding,” said Caroline Rossignol, President of Alcoa Foundation.

The foundation’s donation supplements the $30,000 Brazilian reais provided by Instituto Alcoa to support the state recovery efforts led by More United Group. In addition to these donations, Instituto Alcoa and More United Group joined together to promote a fundraising campaign for employees and contractors interested in contributing financial resources.
