Community Engagement Highlights: Australia

In Australia, we deepened a place-based approach to engagement, focusing on being present in local communities and connecting directly where people live and work. Efforts emphasized grassroots outreach through local events, face-to-face conversations, and site tours, with more than 2,400 community members, stakeholders, and partners visiting operational and rehabilitation areas.

Between May and August, a targeted communications and engagement program supported Western Australia’s Environmental Protection Authority public comment period on environmental assessment proposals for current and future bauxite mining operations and associated refinery plans. Communities accessed clear, accessible information through webpages, fact sheets, information sessions, site tours, and stakeholder meetings, including with Traditional Owners.

Engagement also supported a potential gallium processing project and the Kwinana refinery closure, with a focus on reskilling and redeployment. These efforts were recognized as best practice by Aluminium Stewardship Initiative auditors in December 2025.
