Alcoa volunteers make a difference

Volunteering is part of the Alcoa culture and today (Wednesday 5 December), Alcoa employees wi ll join with thousands of other community-minded people in celebration of International Volunteer Day.

Alcoa values volunteering and encourages employee volunteering throughout the year. So far in 2018, Alcoa’s Australian employees have volunteered for more than 2500 hours to help at about 100 different events or activities ranging from busy bees at local charities through to assisting at community events.

Many of these activities formed part of the Alcoans Coming Together in Our Neighbourhoods (ACTION) program which further supported the organisations with a $3000 grant. Alcoa has donated about $150,000 to these community organisations during this year.

Alcoa strives to build employee engagement and volunteering into its Community Partnerships. These range from rolling up sleeves for planting sessions with environmental groups to mentoring local high students to reach their academic potential.

Alcoa of Australia Chairman and Managing Director Michael Parker thanked volunteers saying it was proof that together we do make a big difference.

“Alcoa is proud to be an engaged and supportive partner in our neighbouring communities and we encourage and support our employees to also be active community members,” Michael said.

Mandated by the United Nations General Assembly, this global day of recognition promotes the importance of volunteering in building resilient communities – a goal shared by Alcoa which has a proud history of helping build stronger sustainable communities that have the capacity to address local challenges and opportunities.
