Portland Aluminium smelter power outage

At approximately 7.06pm EST on Saturday 16 November 2019, power supply to Alcoa’s Portland Aluminium smelter was lost due to an issue external to the plant associated with the incoming transmission line.

Auxiliary power supply to the smelter was restored at approximately 10.00pm EST. Power supply to potline one at the smelter was restored at approximately 11.00pm EST. Power supply to potline two was restored at approximately 3.50am EST on Sunday 17 November.

Our dedicated smelter team continues to work to safely stabilise the plant and reinstate normal operations.
