Alcoa Wagerup Alumina Refinery fabricator and welder Brody Stallard from Pinjarra has taken home a swag of awards from South Regional TAFE.

Alcoa Wagerup Refinery Apprentice of the Year for 2019, Brody Stallard from Pinjarra, has dominated South Regional TAFE’s annual awards.

Brody was judged Engineering Apprentice of the Year, Campus Trades and Paraprofessionals Student of the Year, South Regional TAFE Apprentice of the Year and South West Apprentice of the Year at the 2020 South Regional TAFE Awards.

The success follows his win at the South-West regional round of the WorldSkills Challenge for welding last year.

Now a full-time fabricator and welder at the Wagerup Refinery, Brody is sharing his skills and mentoring other Alcoa apprentices.

“I really appreciate the training I’ve received at Alcoa. It has helped me unlock doors and has given me a great start in life,” Brody said.

“I really found my passion when it came to trades, especially in construction and fabrication.”

The humble all-rounder believes a solid work ethic and a passion for what you do is the key to being successful.

“If you love your job you’ll never work a day in your life and if you work hard and do your best you can really go far,” Brody said.

Alcoa Apprentice Coordinator Craig Watts said he was not surprised by Brody’s success as his workmanship was first class.

“From the moment he started with us Brody has shown great trades skills and a terrific willingness to learn and improve himself,” Craig said.

Alcoa has a proud history in training generations of skilled workers over the 57 years it has been operating in Australia with more 2,000 apprentices, trainees and graduates being employed.
