Alcoa seeks graduates for 2025 program

Chemical engineer Vani Gupta is a former Alcoa Graduate Program recruit who now works at the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery.

Graduates keen to establish careers in the mining and refining sectors are encouraged to apply for a broad range of roles under Alcoa Australia’s 2025 Graduate Program.

Alcoa is seeking graduates in electrical, chemical, mechanical, geotechnical and mine engineering, and environmental science fields for the three-year program, which offers job opportunities at its bauxite mines and alumina refineries in the Peel and Upper South West regions, as well as at the company’s Australian headquarters in Booragoon, WA.

For former Graduate Program recruits Vani Gupta and Sam Bennett, both who now work at Alcoa’s Pinjarra Alumina Refinery, one of the greatest benefits of the program was the immersive nature of the role and the support offered to help them succeed.

“Through the Graduate Program, I really got to experience what refinery life was like,” said chemical engineer Vani.

“You're not just working at a computer, you're going out into the field, seeing what changes you need to make, and then troubleshooting on bigger scale projects. So that's kind of when I realised that, hey, I actually do want to live the refinery life.”

Electrical engineer Sam welcomed the personal and professional development opportunities available through the program.

“We had access to a lot of training, whether in-house or external, relevant to our discipline,” he said.

“As a graduate you will have a lot of opportunities to learn, and you'll face a lot of challenges. Every day will be different, so it really is a good place to cut your teeth.

“The workplace culture is very welcoming – everyone’s here to support you and you’ve all got common goals you’re working towards together.”

Both also say a major benefit of working with Alcoa is the ability to go home each day rather than have to work fly-in-fly-out rosters, thanks to operations being located close to Perth and near major population centres in the Peel and South West regions.

Applications for the Graduate Program are open until Thursday, 28th March 2024. For more information please see www.alcoa.com/careers/en/our-talent-program-opportunities
