The lives of another ten local women and their families have now changed for the better, since participating in Safe Woman Safe Family’s Alcoa-funded Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Program.

The free 15-week program is funded by Alcoa’s Pinjarra Alumina Refinery and offered twice a year to women who live locally in the Peel region and have been impacted by family and domestic violence. The program aims to guide women in changing negative patterns and self-limiting beliefs and also assists with educational, training and employment referrals.

Safe Woman Safe Family (SWSF) Co-founder Tanya Langford said tackling family violence requires many approaches.

“Our method is to give women an opportunity to understand the negative factors that have impacted their lives and trapped them in the ‘cycle of violence,” Tanya said.

“The program also helps participants create new pathways based on their enhanced self-worth and positivity which works to create safer, brighter futures for themselves and their children.”

In late October, Tanya, along with SWSF mentors and program participants, celebrated the completion of the fourth round of the unique program.

Participants shared heartbreaking stories of personal trauma along with their journeys of empowerment and transformation after participating in the program.

“Alcoa is proud to support a local organisation that helps women recover from domestic and family violence trauma and equips them with tangible strategies to move forward,” Alcoa Pinjarra Refinery Manager Mark Hodgson said.

“Congratulations to the latest participants who’ve completed the 15-week Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Program. It’s a remarkable achievement and I wish the participants success with their future endeavours.”
