Alcoa volunteers make a lasting impact

As vulnerable Australians face growing social and economic challenges, the collective efforts of Alcoa’s workforce continue to make a significant impact in the regions where they live and work.

Throughout 2023, more than 1,100 employees have provided 4,700 volunteer hours to 98 community groups and charities that provide essential assistance in communities near the company’s operations in Western Australia and Victoria.

Many of these activities formed part of the Alcoans Coming Together in Our Neighbourhoods (ACTION) program, which sees the company match employees’ volunteering efforts with a $3,000 grant.

Through ACTION, Alcoa contributed $192,000 of critical funding to local community organisations of personal importance to its employees during this year.

Employee volunteers supported the organisations in many ways including sporting and community group busy bees, food preparation, and tree planting.

Alcoa Corporate Affairs Director Jodie Read said the company had a long and proud history of supporting the communities it was a part of, and it was a fitting time to recognise employees’ efforts alongside International Volunteer Day, celebrated on 5 December.

“Our employee volunteer program unites the collective effort and generosity of our employees to help strengthen local communities – and support the causes they’re most passionate about,” Ms Read said.

“Giving back to community is a big part of our culture at Alcoa and we’re aiming to make an even greater impact as we continue to grow our programs that support employees to be active contributors to the community.”

Alcoa places a significant focus on helping build stronger, more sustainable communities. In 2022, the company contributed nearly $5 million to community initiatives in Australia.

Alcoa’s WA employees also support the community through the Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help (PEACH) payroll donation program. Since its inception 40 years ago, PEACH has contributed more than $4.4 million to community and charitable activities.
