Traineeship paves the way for future tradespeople
Seventeen aspiring process operators have begun their traineeships at Alcoa's Kwinana, Pinjarra, and Wagerup alumina refineries, where they will gain hands-on experience in operating production equipment.
Upon finishing the 12-month traineeship, each trainee will have obtained practical knowledge through real-world experience and be awarded a nationally recognised Certificate II in Process Plant Operations.
This latest round of highly sought-after traineeships, which involve both TAFE coursework and practical assessments, attracted close to 1000 applicants.
Previously employed as a support worker, Aden Brim of Halls Head was enthusiastic about using his experience to make a positive impact on his local community through his traineeship at Wagerup refinery.
“As someone who has always been a part of a tight-knit community, I have always been passionate about giving back,” Aden said. “After discovering the traineeship, I looked into Alcoa's involvement in the local community and was very impressed.”
“One of the most fulfilling aspects of this traineeship has been pushing myself outside of my comfort zone and constantly learning.”
Recruitment for Alcoa’s 2025 Traineeship Program is expected to commence mid this year.
With a proud history of 61 years in Australia, Alcoa has trained and employed more than 2,600 apprentices, trainees, and graduates, leaving a lasting impact on the skilled labour industry.
